We got this great ZX6 report From Kyosho driver Rhys Herd during a Holiday to his home Country of Canada !
This weekend marked the yearly Triple A-main hosted by Sid's RC Raceway located in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. It was my first time at this meeting and track! The event had a great turn out of drivers running many different classes 2WD, 4WD Buggy, 2WD, 4WD SCT, 2WD Stadium truck and a mini T class.
I ran the all new Kyosho Lazer ZX6 equipped with Team Orion electronics and Aka Tyres. The car, electronics and tyres were rapid all day!
First up was 3 rounds of 5 minute controlled practice. I used round 1 to get to know the track layout and driving on a low-mid bite dirt surface. This was my first time out with the ZX6 on dirt so I made a couple changes to the car after round 1.
Round 2 the car started to feel much better after going to Gold springs all round making the car a bit softer and to Super soft impact all round.
Round 3 I put on a Rudebits R1 wing which added more rear traction.
Next up was 3 rounds of qualifying best 2 out of the 3 count!
Round 1 The track was getting to it's best as it started to groove up. I put in some good laps with a couple of small mistakes on the double double at the back of the track. But still put in a good time getting 4th in the round overall.
Round 2 I changed the rear camber link position which I knew would help. The car was feeling great but I had a hard landing which was my fault and meant I was out of round 2.
Round 3 All I needed to do was have a nice clean run to keep me in the A Main. Went in .5 degrees on the rear toe and the car was rapid. I was able to get another 4th in the round; times in round 3 were close as all the drivers and cars were at their best.
With two 4th's overall in qualifying I was placed 4th on the grid for the 4WD A main!
The A mains had three legs.
Leg 1 I kept it clean and finished up with a 3rd
Leg 2 the track started to blow out with so many cars going around! A few mistakes meant I finished up 6th
Leg 2 all I needed to do was gain one place to finish on the podium. I did this and finished up with a 3rd overall!
I'd like to say a HUGE Well done to Sid's raceway for putting on a great event and working through out the day non stop in the 30* C heat to keep the track in good condition!
The People racing at Sids are great people, very kind and welcoming with helping me out with a table and some under cover pitting!
Thanks a lot and look forward to coming next year!
